Dear Malcolm It was a nice surprise to see Topsy featured in the latest Equifeast news leaflet under "rescue, rehab and project horses". I got my copy at the start of the week just after we had her blood tested to see if she was in foal. You might remember that told you that I started her on CC&C to help with behavioural problems associated with catching and foot trimming and then went on to feed her Winning Edge Silver. The reason I gave the Winning Edge a try was Topsy's other little problem…her last foal, Nugget (above), is doing fine and is now training to be a ride and drive with his new owners, but that was three years ago and I haven't been able to get her in foal since…until now! I'm absolutely thrilled to get a positive result and am sure that the supplement helped. She only got covered a few times on her first season of the year and after that I left it to fate. The decision to try Winning Edge came after I phoned your helpline to ask if there was a broodmare/covering supplement that I could try and the answer was "No, sorry, not yet, but if I was desperate to get a mare in foal I might try Winning Edge Silver – no guarantees, but at least it has everything she might need as a broodmare in it". I said that there was nothing to be lost by giving it a go before giving up the idea of breeding a little coloured. Unfortunately I can't remember the nice lady's name but you need to track her down and say a HUGE thank you from me – there was no sales pressure or promises, just a helpful pair of ears. So is this the first claim to an Equifeast foal? I hope it will have lots of white on it and then I can call it Silver! Attached is a (not very good) photo of Topsy with her last foal. I'll keep you updated on the progress, behaviour-wise she is much more chilled out about life in general. Incidentally, the dad, Storm (see below), came to me in rather poor condition and as an unproven colt - he's now looking fab after sharing Topsy's Winning Edge. More about him later when I get some photos of him for you. A million thanks again to the member of staff that helped, I do hope she can remember the phone call amongst the many that they must deal with. Very best wishes Chris FitzGerald (BHSAI)
